Value of Taiwanese Sports Industry has
Reached USD 1.25 Billion for Three Years

he value of Taiwanese sports
industry had exceeded USD
1.25 billion in 2014, setting the
highest record ever and has continued for
the following two years. The production
ranges from ball sports appliance, track
and field equipment, surfboard, skis, ice
skates, fishing gear to gymnastics and
fitness equipment, almost 90% of the
products are being exported directly.
Indoor fitness equipment and golf gear
are the main products among all,
accounted for 70% of sports industry in
value. The US is the top one with 40%
among Taiwan’s exporting countries, and China stands
the second place with 10%, followed by Japan with
8.5%.
According to the performance of Taiwanese sports
industry in the first nine months of 2016, the popular
items are similar to those in the past year, but the total
export value decreased by 1.8%, to USD 1.232 billion.
“Articles and equipment for general physical exercise,
gymnastics or athletics” accounted for USD 560 million,
increased by 3.6% compared to the same period of last
year; the second is “articles and equipment for other
sports or outdoor games, not specified or included
elsewhere in this Chapter; swimming pools and paddling
pools” with USD 180 million, dropped by 10.2%
compared to the same time last year; the third one is
“other golf equipment”, specifying a 2.9% drop to USD
140 million compared to the prior period.
According to the statistical table, outdoor and winter
sport items have grown significantly with more than
200%, such as tents of synthetic fibers, ski suits of other
textile materials, ice/ roller skates and tables for
table-tennis. However, some items such as ski suits of
man-made fibers and sailboards had no statistics for the
period of 2016.

fitness equipment is growing with a
compound annual growth rate of
3.89%, and it is predicted that the
market will reach USD 119 billion by
2020. With the improved quality of
sports equipment and the enhanced
consumer buying power, the sales of
global sports industry shall continue to
grow.
