Gogoro aims to export Taiwan’s energy transition model as it prepares to expand into Vietnam, CEO Chiang Chia-wei said Thursday.

Chiang said the company plans to enter Ho Chi Minh City this year, launching pilot operations in Q2, per CNA. Vietnam-specific models are also in the pipeline, per Mirror Media.

Speaking at a sustainability forum in Bangkok, Chiang said the invitation reflects growing international interest in Taiwan’s energy transition. He added that Gogoro’s role spans national resilience, industry growth, and global expansion.

On resilience, Chiang said rising geopolitical tensions highlight the need to strengthen energy systems and diversify transportation. Gogoro has worked with cities to build virtual power plant networks, linking battery-swapping stations to improve energy flexibility, he said.

On expansion, Chiang said Vietnam is a key market due to its large motorcycle base and steady economic growth. He acknowledged past setbacks in Indonesia and India, saying they underscored the importance of timing and local partners, while competition from local EV maker VinFast will be a challenge.

The company is also focused on improving its finances, reporting operating cash flow of NT$994.85 million (US$31.1 million) last year, its highest in nearly two years. It aims to break even in its energy business this year and in its vehicle business by 2028.
