MOTOR Trader 2026
Peter Chu From the Publisher I n 2025, Taiwan’s motorcycle industry continued to develop steadily amid a global demand recovery, with exports performing particularly well. The rebound in Southeast Asian and South Asian commuter markets allowed Taiwanese brands, leveraging stable quality, good fuel efficiency, and mature supply chains, to achieve notable growth in export volume compared to 2024. Strong demand from Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, and India created new opportunities for small- and medium-displacement gasoline motorcycles, electric vehicle OEMs, and localized production partnerships. The international market showed two major trends. First, manufacturers actively deepened localized operations, using CKD/SKD assembly and strategic alliances to shorten delivery times and adapt to tariff policies. Second, rising global demand for low-carbon smart mobility made technologies such as ABS, TCS, and smart dashboards important selling points for export products, enhancing the competitiveness of Taiwanese motorcycles in emerging markets. However, the motorcycle industry still faces challenges. Increasingly strict emission regulations, such as India’s Bharat Stage standards and ASEAN carbon emission requirements, force manufacturers to invest more in R&D, improve gasoline vehicle efficiency, or accelerate electrification. Rising global raw material and shipping costs also compress export profits. Additionally, local brands in China and India, competing with low prices and large production capacity, make Taiwanese manufacturers to differentiate through quality and riding experience. Looking ahead to 2026, exports will remain the primary growth motivation. Demand in ASEAN markets is expected to stay strong, while growth in the European light electric vehicle market may bring new orders. Manufacturers plan to expand overseas production sites, develop multi-market sales channels, and launch efficient gasoline motorcycles and mid-range electric vehicles to address policy and price competition. Only by continuously upgrading technology, stabilizing supply chains, and enhancing brand value can Taiwan maintain a key position in the global motorcycle market. 2026 The premier motorcycle & parts buyer’s guide Photo/EICMA 10
