Established in 1981, Taida Horticultural Co., Ltd. is one of Taiwan’s oldest and most representative orchid farms. Over the years, the company has grown to become an international enterprise setting up outlets in New Jersey and New York in 2005 and 2009. Dedicated departments have been set up for breeding, R&D, production and sales. Corporate management practices have also been adopted for breeding selection, clean room tissue cultivation, greenhouse cultivation, pest control and virus testing. Taida Horticultural’s main product is Phalaenopsis orchids and their product line encompasses a wide range of colors as well as young plants, medium plants, mature plants, blooming plants and decorated combined plants for art. Their extensive range of varieties is sufficient to meet the needs of both domestic and international markets.

Growing up in a farming family, President Pen-chih Lai went on to graduate from the Institute of Botany, Chung Hsing University in 1976 and then worked as a researcher for five years at the Agriculture Research Institute. Being involved with orchid cultivation for close to 30 years, he has spared no effort to promote orchid work. In addition to receiving numerous domestic and international awards for a range of varieties, Pen-chih Lai received Taiwan’s Shennong Award in recognition of his special contribution to agriculture. Due to his development of a special technique to prevent disease occurrence in orchid plants during long-distance sea transport, he was awarded a Ching Chong Award in the field of research from the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan this year. Converting his passion for orchids into action, Pen-chih Lai has successfully marketed Taiwan orchids to the four corners of the world.

Specializing in the cultivation of Phalaenopsis orchids, the Taida Little Zebra is a classic orchid offered by Taida Horticultural. This product has a waxy sheen, many bifurcates, brown lines and a flowering period of three to five months. It has a truly rare color among small to medium varieties. So far, this orchid has earned an enthusiastic response in markets in Europe, America and Japan. It also won a silver medal at the Japan Grand Prix International Orchid Festival. At present, exports make up about 80% of Taida Horticultural total sales. Their major export markets are in the United States, Europe, Japan and Southeast Asia. In the future, Taida Horticultural’s next objective is to expand its American outlets and prepare to enter the Chinese market.

Business at Taida Horticultural grew steadily this year. This exceptional performance was due to maintenance of excellence relations with their domestic and international customers but also continued advancements in breeding, hybridization, selection and virus control and testing. The company hopes that more people can enjoy the beauty of Taiwan orchids so that Taida Horticultural can shine forever in international markets.
